"Ever since自從 we first saw concept art概念藝術=插畫形式表達設計概念 for Disney’s latest animated feature Frozen (now playing at theatres worldwide), we’ve all been obsessed迷住 with Elsa, the Snow Queen. Her beauty. Her dress. Her sass唐突. Her voice. Her awesome ice magic! Even the naysayers反對者 of Frozen will admit that Elsa is stunning."

Elsa, the oldest Disney Princess at the "ripe old age"非常老 of 21, is the newly最近 crowned queen of the kingdom of Arendelle. Unlike other Disney Princesses who are happy and chipper開心活潑 most of the time, Elsa has a secret she refuses to divulge揭露 : she has the power to create and control ice and snow. This power haunts鬼沒纏繞 Elsa because during her childhood, it nearly took the life of her younger sister, Anna. Growing up, Elsa was taught to control her powers, hiding them from everyone including her sister, concealing and not feeling. When the time comes for Elsa to be crowned queen, circumstances種種情形 cause her to unleash her incredible powers, causing people to panic and label her a witch. Afraid and confused, Elsa flees to the mountains, where she lets her power run free and becomes known as The Snow Queen.

Never in Disney history have we had a female character as conflicted and complicated as Elsa (Megara from Hercules as the closest possible contender角逐者). Voiced brilliantly by Idina Menzel (known for originating起源 the role of Elphaba in Wicked, a similarly gray role), Elsa is not, like other princesses, happy go lucky. Disney has created a dark, mature, central重要 female character, whose greatest challenge is finding acceptance–not just from others–but from herself as well.

Critics批評者 argue that unlike her sister, Elsa is largely a bland平乏 and underdeveloped character, who takes a backseat退居次位 to Anna in the movie. However, it must be said that the movie does a great job of bringing to light Elsa’s internal psychological struggle. Elsa is, by nature, reserved and poised沉著, and honestly, that’s not boring at all. Not everyone can be as bubbly開心活潑 as Anna or Rapunzel all the time. If anything非要說出的話, Elsa is mature and regal王者般, with a demure端莊嫻靜 befitting適合做 a queen.

Elsa represents fear. Not a likely合適 theme for a Disney Princess, you say? But it is what it is. The darkness of Elsa’s character is contrasted sharply with the sunniness性情開朗 of her sister Anna’s. While Elsa is serious and brooding憂鬱, Anna is grinning露齒而笑 and goofy.

Elsa’s emotions manifest表現 through her magic. When she’s afraid or angry, jagged鉤齒狀 ice spikes冰錐 appear. In contrast, when she’s happy or calm, she produces beautiful swirls漩渦 of snow. In fact, her fearful emotions plunge躍進 the kingdom of Arendelle into an eternal winter–right in the middle of July.

Elsa’s character is best summed up in her personal anthem頌歌, Let It Go. The lyrics (hats off脫帽致敬 to lyricist Kristen Anderson-Lopez) convey a sense of fear at the beginning. Elsa realizes she’s no longer held captive囚禁 by that fear she’s lived in all her life. Unleashing her powers, she transforms herself, coming to the realization體現 that “that perfect girl is gone”; the reign統治 of the Snow Queen has begun.

Elsa is the poster child典型代表 for introverts內向的人 who prefer to live in isolation and not be bothered by interpersonal relationships or the demands of the world.

How many of you would agree with the fact that Elsa is Disney’s LGBT icon? Hear me out聽我說完: Elsa has lived all her life hiding her true self from the world. Then one day, she can’t hold it in any longer and she essentially “comes out”. She sings the anthemic Let It Go, a song about standing for yourself and not caring what the world says about you. It’s not surprising how many people from the LGBT community have already adopted Let It Go as their personal anthem, it is an empowering賦予權力 song that deals with breaking free from a difficult past and gaining the courage to believe in yourself. Not just members of the gay community, but people from all walks of life who have trouble accepting themselves and hiding their gifts can relate to Elsa.

When Elsa flings away her crown, lets her hair down and creates a new persona角色 for herself, it is visually symbolic of her own psyche精神: there is nothing holding her down any longer, and she is free to live her own life without any constraints.

It’s interesting that Elsa doesn’t have a love interest in the movie. Fans were disappointed to learn that Anna gets both a sister and a boyfriend at the end of the movie, while “poor Elsa” only has to be satisfied with getting her sister back. This viewpoint, while legitimate, is flawed. All Elsa wanted was acceptance. And she does get that. Elsa doesn’t really care about having a boyfriend the way Anna pines渴望 for romance. Elsa’s biggest conflict is coming to terms with安於 herself.

As much as Anna’s struggle is external, Elsa’s is internal. Anna wants her sister back, and also wants to find romance. Elsa just wants to be at peace with her immense power. By the end of the movie, we see that both the sisters get what they wanted, neither left disappointed.

Young people can learn a lot from Elsa and her story. Never be afraid of your abilities. No matter how different you may seem, embrace what makes you unique and accept yourself for who you are. For Elsa to gain acceptance of the world, she first had to come to terms with herself and her powers. How much more beautiful could a movie message be?

Elsa is easily one of the greatest female characters Disney has ever created. Her mental anguish煎熬 and uncontrollable powers define modern feminism女權主義. Elsa represents the boundless無界限 female spirit- strong and graceful, with the power to change the world.

Anna is Disney’s newest princess that will join the princess franchise. She debuted in Frozen this year and already stole the hearts of many cinema goers. She’s kind, funny and sometimes a little awkward but no one can hate her thanks to the excellent voicing work of Kristen bell. In this edition of the Rotoscopers Princess Profiles I will discuss Princess Anna.

Anna is more daring than graceful and, at times, can act before she thinks. But she’s also very optimistic and caring. She longs to reconnect with her sister, Elsa, since they were close during their childhood. But when Elsa accidentally hit Anna with her ice powers (and almost killed her) they get separated to protect Anna. Anna doesn’t understand why her best friend ignores her because all Anna’s memories of Elsa’s powers are erased by the mystical trolls. When Elsa accidentally unleashes her magical secret and locks the kingdom of Arendelle in an eternal winter after her coronation, Anna embarks on a dangerous adventure to make things right. Armed with only her fearlessness, a never-give-up attitude and her faith in others, Anna is determined to save both her kingdom and her family.

Anna is a great character; Kristen Bell did an amazing job voicing her and making her so realistic. Anna is hilarious but also very awkward because she says and does things at the wrong moment, what makes her even more relatable有共鳴. Anna’s life is pretty sad: can you imagine getting separated from your best friend (and sister) at the age of 4? And losing your parents at the age of 15? It’s heartbreaking to see Anna’s pain and Kristen Bell did an amazing job in the song “Do You Want To Build a Snowman?” Seeing the scene is so emotional, but only hearing the song and hearing Anna’s pain is heartbreaking as well.

One of the first things Anna does when they finally open the gates of the palace for the first time in a very long time is meeting a prince: Prince Hans from the Southern Isles. It has been her dream for a very long time to find true love and, after meeting Hans, she ultimately thinks she’s in love. It’s not impossible for someone falls in love so quickly but because it has been her dream to find true love for such a long time she really thinks she is in love. That night they get engaged, but Elsa doesn’t approve their marriage. When Elsa unleashes her powers and runs away, Anna goes on a journey where she ultimately discovers what true love is. Not only for her sister, but also for a guy (Kristoff), who eventually becomes her boyfriend. This time she doesn’t fall in love with him because she wants to find true love, but because it is true love.

Let’s talk about Anna’s design because a lot of people have been complaining about that she looks too much like Rapunzel from Disney’s Tangled. To me, when I see this character I’m not seeing Rapunzel but I’m seeing Anna. Yes the designs have similarities but all Disney characters have and with Anna you should look beyond that. Her personality is so different from Rapunzel and technology has improved in the last couple of years, so Anna’s character has a lot more details and when you are going to compare these two you’ll definitely see differences. I prefer Anna’s design, because I think Disney did an amazing job on her face and hair and like I said before the details (just look at the freckles雀斑 on her shoulders!). I love the dress she wears in summer and I hope the Anna face-character人物扮演 will some day wear this in the Disney Parks.

Before I saw Frozen, I always liked Elsa more than Anna. I thought Elsa was much cooler and I didn’t care as much about Anna’s story as I did about Elsa’s story. I mean, come on, Anna can’t control snow and ice! But after seeing Frozen my opinion changed, Elsa was great but Anna was such an amazing character. She is a good balance of being both hilarious and emotional. I loved the emotional scenes where you see her all by herself獨力堅守 on the funeral of the king and queen or when she’s looking for Elsa in the blizzard even more, and not to forget the amazing songs she has and the amazing performance by Kristen Bell.

A lot of people will relate敘述 Anna’s awkwardness. And not only girls because at some points I, as a guy, could totally relate to her as well (for example when she made jokes at inappropriate moments). At the same time I also think people who feel they’re all by themselves, thinking no one really cares about them can relate to her and hopefully understand that they aren’t alone after seeing Frozen. Because of these points I think a lot of younger children, teens and maybe even adults can relate to her. That’s why I love Anna so much.
